Youth’s corpse found in Naavaanthu’rai

Residents of Naavaanthu’rai in Jaffna city recovered the corpse of a youth with a rope around his neck lying in an abandoned house at the Ainthu Santhi area Thursday evening, sources in Jaffna said. Recently, the burnt body of a woman abducted from Kokkuvil was found in this same area, the sources added.

The youth killed was identified as I. Vatheeswaran, 27, according to the National Identity Card found on the body.

Vatheeswaran may have been killed somewhere else and then brought to Naavaanththu'rai, and dumped in the abandoned house, the residents of the area said.

Jaffna magistrate, S. Vasanthasenan, directed Jaffna police to recover the corpse and hand it over to Jaffna Teaching Hospital for post mortem examination.

Inquiry into the death will be held Friday, legal sources said.
