Sri Lanka appoints Jayantha Wickremaratne as new IGP

Jayantha Wickremaratne, senior Deputy Inspector General of Police, has been appointed 31st Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Sri Lanka with effect from July 1. He is to assume office on July 2. The incumbent IGP Victor Perera is to retire from service on June 30th, sources in Colombo said.

Jayantha Wickremaratne born in the year 1943 joined the Sri Lanka Police Service in the year 1974 as an Assistant Superintendent of Police in the volunteer force. He was promotes as a DIG and served in the regions of Southern Province, Uva Province, North Central Province and the southern region of the Western Province. He was promoted as the senior DIG in 2004.

Mr Wickremaratne served as the media spokesman of the Police Department earlier.
