Nanthakumar’s remains cremated in Skanthapuram

The remains of N.Nanthakumar, Divisional Secretary (Assistant Government Agent) of Thu'nukkaay division of Mullaiththeevu district killed Sunday afternoon in a Claymore attack carried out by the Deep Penetration Unit (DPU) of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) was cremated Monday afternoon in Skandapuram with tearful homage in the presence of thousands of civilians including hundreds of government officers and a number of people displaced from Thu'nukkaay AGA’s administrative area.

The remains of Nanthakumar was kept at the AGA office in Thu'nukkaay from 10:00 a.m. until noon for the public to pay their last respects. After thousands of civilians paid their homage, the casket containing the remains of Nanthakumar was transported in his car to Akkaraayan Government School, kept there from 1:00 p.m. until 1:50 p.m. for the public to pay their homage. The casket containing the remains of Nanthakumar was then transported to his residence in Skanthapuram where last rites were conducted. A large gathering of general public including hundreds of officers from the Government departments of Mullaiththeevu and Ki’linochchi districts visited the residence of late Mr.Nanthakumar to pay their last respects. A condolence meeting held at the residence of AGA was presided by Mr.Mahendiran, Administrative officer of Thu’nukkaay AGA office. Mrs.Shanthi Sriskandarajah, Assistant Director of Planning AGA’s Secretariat, Ganeshapillai, President of Ki’linochchi District cooperative society, Veerathevan, the Managing director of Bank of Tamil Eelam and a university colleague of Mr.Nanthakumar, P.Ganeshan, the Deputy Director of Education(English ) representing Ki’linochchi Zonal Education officer, N.Vethanayagan, the Government Agent (GA) of Ki’linochchi, Ketheeswaran from Kilinochchi District Planning Secretariat, K.V.Balakumaran, a senior member of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) and Parthipan, Mullaitheevu AGA spoke at the occasion eulogizing the achievements and services provided by Nanthakumar. The remains of Mr.Nanthakumar was then taken in procession to Skanthapuram public cemetery for final homage and cremated. Mrs. Imelda Sugumar,
