SLA artillery attacks target IDP settlements in Mannaar

Sri Lanka Army (SLA) continue to launch artillery fire on Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) settlements in Ka’l’liyadi, Aaththimoadai and Illuppakkadavai in Mannaar district from Monday early morning. Large number of civilians who had been displaced from their villages in Mannaar district due to SLA offensives had been living in temporary shelters in the above villages.
Thousands of people living in Adampan, Aa’ndaangku’lam, Chaa’lampan, Nedungka’nddal, Vaddakka’ndal, Thampanai, Madu, Thadchcha’naamaruthamadu, Periyamadu, Channaar, Eachchilavaththai, Periyapa’ndivirichchaan, Chinnappa’ndivirichchaan, Uyilangku’lam, and Ka’n’naaddi in Mannaar district, displaced from their villages, are now living in the areas targeted by SLA. The schools in Aa’ndaangkulam, Karungka’ndal and Adampan were functioning in Illuppaikkadavai Government Tamil Mixed School while Maanthi Regional Secretariat has been operating from Illuppaikkadavai for the last few months. Thousands of IDPs are moving again with their belongings from their temporary settlements due to the incessant SLA artillery attack.
