CWC, UPF decide to contest SPC election separately

The Ceylon Workers Congress (CWC) and Upcountry Peoples Front (UPF), allies of the ruling United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) have decided to contest the Sabragamuwa Provincial Council (SPC) separately. Leaders of the CWC and UPF are holding ministerial posts in the cabinet of the President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Sabragamuwa provincial council comprises two districts, Ratnapura and Kegalle. UPF is to field Lalitha K.Ramachandran as its chief candidate for the Ratnapura district and N.Krishnan for Kegalle district under its symbol Mammoty. CWC is to field A.M.D.Rajan as its chief candidate for Ratnapura district and Pir Thouse Farook for Kegalle district under its symbol Cockerel. Both parties are to submit their nomination lists on Friday the day nominations close, sources said.
