President warns rumour mongers

The Sri Lankan President, Chandrika Kumaratunge while addressing a public meeting in Nathandiya today said that the government troops will end this war soon and they would then be allowed to return to their homes.

She said that the government fully intended to continue the war.

The President stressed the need to settle the conflict through a political solution and said that the majority of Tamils had already rejected the LTTE.

She vowed to take stern action against those are trying to create panic. She added any member of the ruling PA or the opposition UNP would be severely punished if they were found guilty of creating such situations.

Her aim is to restore peace in the country and conduct free and fair polls, she said
