[TamilNet, Saturday, 05 July 2008, 10:41 GMT]
According to sudden announcement made Friday by Palaali command of Sri Lanka Army (SLA) the night time curfew in Jaffna peninsula has been extended by an additional two and a half hours to a total of ten hours.
Until Thursday the curfew hours in force was from 9:00 p.m. till 4:30 a.m. extending up to a total of seven and a half hours. The new curfew hours will be from 7:00 p.m. till 5:00 a.m. As a result of the new announcement by SLA, the public transport including Sri Lanka Transport board (SLTB) will end their daily services between 4:00 p.m. And 4:30 p.m. These services were provided till 6:00 p.m. until Thursday. Curtailing the hours of operation of transport services and frequent change in hours of nighttime curfew has severely affected the normalcy in the peninsula.
