An internally displaced Tamil family man sheltered in the refugee camp located in Zahira College in Batticaloa police division was abducted Sunday evening by unidentified armed persons. 35 year-old Selvarajah Sritharan left the refugee camp to buy milk food to his one-year old child but he failed to return thereafter, according to a complaint lodged by his wife with the Batticaloa police. Zahira College is located about 1.5 km north of Batticaloa town.
Selvarajah Sritharan with his family fled from Sivapuram in Killiveddy in Moothoor division in Trincomalee district in the year 2006 to Batticaloa and had been sheltered in Zahira College refugee camp for few months. "Later in August the same year we left for India as refugees but returned to Batticaloa on 27.02.2008 and have been residing in the camp," his wife stated in her complaint to the police. Meanwhile, frequent cordon and search operation is being conducted daily in Batticaloa town by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA), Special Task Force (STF) commandos.
