The 34-year old former employee of Ceylinco Insurance company, abducted by unknown gunmen in white van Thursday night near the Batticaloa village of Chinna Oo'ra'ni, was severely beaten and was later dumped near shrub jungle along Ea'raavoor-Punnakkuda road, the victim told Earaavoor Police.
Sundaranathan Selvakumar who is currently engaged in contract business, told the Police in his statement that the abductors tied his hands and blind-folded him before driving the van for nearly 90 minutes. "The abductors did not ask me anything, but beat me severely. They later looked at my National ID card and asked me for my name. After this, they drove me back and pushed me to the ground on the roadside," Selvakumar further said in his statement. Muslim residents of the village, then rescued me and took me to the Police station, Selvakumar said he was kept blind-folded the whole time he was under captivity, and added that the abductors spoke both Sinhala and Tamil.
