SLMM records to be stored in Norway National Archives

Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM), currently in termination phase, and operating with a few staff in Norway, said in their website that all documents and data-files produced during SLMM operation in Sri Lanka will be deposited with National Archives of Norway. Public will be barred access to sensitive information, according to SLMM.

"Parallel to the accounts and audits, a major part of the termination process is to contribute towards an accurate historical documentation of the SLMM throughout the whole period, both in order to complement the resource accounts, and to provide first and authoritative factual information for the future, not least as source material for researchers, evaluators, politicians, and others," the website said.

A Resource Report, on the annual accounts and statistics, covering the total Nordic resource allocations to the SLMM throughout the mission period, an Experience Report, accounting the experiences made – lessons learned – from the SLMM, a Historical Web, replacing the current web site displaying a collection of all official SLMM documents, and a Historical Archive, containing the complete collection of all SLMM files and documents from the mission period, including the case files, are to be produced at the end of the termination exercise, the SLMM said.

The termination process carried out by the SLMM headquarters is to be concluded by October, and the reports ready in November 2008. The five Nordic governments and majority of the monitors who served with the mission, are participating in the exercise, the website said.
