The Sinhala Nationalist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), has been on its way to the jungle once again after its internal split, said the General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and a senior minister in the United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA) government, Mr.Maithiripala Sirisena, addressing a press briefing held in the auditorium of the Mahaweli Centre in Colombo Friday.
SLFP is the main constituent of the UPFA government led by Sri Lanka's President Mahinda Rajapakse. "JVP has been trying to launch another insurgency against the government while hiding in the jungles like in 1989-1989. The JVP leadership is reported to have decided to topple the government by any means after the utter failure of their July 10 token strike," Mr. Maithiripala Sirisena said. "What was wrong in the TMVP contesting in the Anuradhapura district to the North Central Provincial Council (NCPC) as UPFA candidates to garner Tamil support to the government? "The main opposition United National Party (UNP), that had signed the Ceasefire Agreement (CFA) with the LTTE recognizing areas held by the LTTE, has no right to criticize the government for including TMVP nominees in its list, Mr.Maithiripala Sirisena said.
