SLA hands over corpse of a civilian gone missing in Vanni

Sri Lanka Army (SLA) handed over a male corpse in a highly decomposed state Thursday to International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC) claiming it to be the body of a member of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). The person killed was the driver of a vehicle who had gone missing 13 July in Oddangku’lam in Thu’nukkai in Vanni.

The victim was identified as Kanthasamy Inthiranathan, 36, a father of three children and a resident of Selvaanakar in Ki’linochchi.

Inthiranathan had taken four persons in his Cantor truck to Oddangku’lam to transport things in a house from which the occupants had fled due to SLA attack, the four persons who managed to escape said.

Inthiranathan who took his vehicle for hire to transport things from the house of a family man in Oddangku’lam in Thu’nukkaai Asisstant Government Agent (AGA) division in Vanni along with four persons had gone missing 13 July Sunday around 9:15 a.m, according to the four persons who had escaped.

His wife had lodged a complaint with Ki’linochchi ICRC 14 July that her husband had gone missing and requested help to find him.

The corpse of Inthiranathan with knife wounds on the neck and chest and in a decomposed state was sent to Vanni through ICRC by the SLA Thursday claiming that it was the body of a member of the LTTE.

The victim was also the owner of a small fuel shop located on Surveyor Kaddaichchanthi in Skanthapuram Veethi in Ki’linochchi.
