Ki'linochchi Government Agent N. Vethanayagan lit the Common Flame
following the tribute address by the president.
"Vimalakumar was one of the most able officials serving in
Ki'linochchi District Secretariat, and he usually rides to Vavuniyaa on his motorcycle in the evenings. He left for Vavuniyaa Friday in the
morning as the number of motorcycles allowed to Vavuniyaa from Vanni is restricted by Sri Lanka Army (SLA).
"We have to work with only a few officials as most of the others who went Vavuniyaa had not returned. Vimalakumar was dedicated to his work and his loss is irreparable and I am very much grieved over his sudden death," the GA said.
"How could our officers do their jobs when there is no guarantee for their security? How can we ask the officers to travel to various places in the district to attend to their duties when attacks are made on them?," he asked.
"Above all Vimalakumar was a sincere social worker serving the people of this area," he said.
