Civilian shot, injured in Vadamaraadchi

Two unidentified gunmen on motorcycle shot and seriously injured a 19-year-old family man Tuesday around 9:00 a.m near the fish market located next to the main entrance of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) 52-4 Division Main Camp in Point Pedro in Vadamaraadchi.
The injured young man is T. Balakrishnan, the father of one child and a resident of Thumpa’lai Veethi in Point Pedro. The gunmen arriving on a motorcycle fired around ten shots at Balakrishnan who had come to the market to buy fish and had ridden away. The seriously injured Balakrishnan was first admitted to Point Pedro Base Hospital and transferred to Jaffna Teaching Hospital for further treatment. Admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, his condition is still critical. The SLA 53-4 Division camp complex is a vast area enclosing Point Pedro harbour, Old Town Council building, Hartley College and Methodist Girls’ High School. The shooting took place at the fish market on the first cross road next to the main entrance of the SLA camp.
