CID recovers arms cache

The Criminal Investigation Division's unit in Batticaloa raided the house of an ex- Muslim homeguard in the Ampara district today and recovered a stock of lethal material today. Police sources in the eastern town said that the detection and arrest was made on information provided by the public in the village of Saaintha Maruthu.

The CID team recovered 5 hand grenades, 10 rifle magazines, one claymore mine and 35 yards of wire used for detonating mines from the ex-Muslim homeguard's residence. The man was arrested and brought to Batticaloa.

Meanwhile a 15 year old girl, E.Subashini, of Karuvaakkerny in Valaichenai, was wounded by a stray bullet fired by the Sri Lankan Army stationed at the Harbour camp last night.
