Ex-Service Commanders elevated in rank with increased pension

Sri Lanka Government has elevated in rank and increased pension privileges of two former Commanders of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA), two former Rear Admirals of the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN), and four former Air-Vice Marshals of the Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) with effect from October 1, 2008, political sources in Colombo said.
The promotions have been made in "recognition of the dedicated services the said rendered in safeguarding the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Sri Lanka," Sri Lanka's Media Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa said in a media briefing. Lieutenant General J.E.D.Perera had been promotes to the rank of General, Rear Admirals D.B.Gunasekara and A.W.H.Perera to the rank of Admiral, and Air Vice Marshal Paddy H.Mendis, W.D.H.S.W.Gunatilake, D.C.Perera, Oliver M.Ranasinghe and Jayalath Weerakody to the rank of Air Chief Marshal, according to reports from Colombo.
