A Tamil youth from Pazhukaamam, Batticaloa District, returning to Sri Lanka
after working in Korea for three years, was abducted Monday afternoon by
men dressed in police uniform, the relatives of the victim reported in a
complaint lodged with Batticaloa district Tamil National Alliance (TNA)
parliamentarian S. Jeyanamthamoothy.
The victim is identified as Kanagaretnam Wigneswaran, 28. The aircraft carrying the abducted youth landed at Katunayake International
Airport at Monday early morning 1:00 a.m., and after the passengers were
subjected to Air Port police check, the victim was traveling towards
Batticaloa in a private vehicle when it was flagged down by the police 500
metres from the Airport. The unidentified men then abducted the youth, according to relatives. When S. Jeyananthamoothy contacted the officer in Charge (OIC) of Katunayake
Airport Police regarding the abduction they denied any such incident. The TNA parliamentarian has notified this matter to all police
stations in Colombo urging them to act quickly to apprehend the abductors.
