Handguns planted in UN premises in Mannaar

The UN office in Colombo in a statement issued in Colombo on Tuesday said they have discovered two pistols hidden in the premises of one of its complexes in Mannaar.

The Makarov pistols, and 48 rounds of ammunition, had been hidden under an outdoor wood pile of a UN complex in Mannaar where IOM office is located. The handguns were discovered at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday by a UN security officer during a regular security sweep, the statement said. The UN had informed the Sri Lankan Police and the authorities immediately. The matter is now under investigation.
