Ramadoss attacks Karunanidhi's vacillation

Pattali Makkal Katchi founder-leader Dr. S. Ramadoss condemned Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi for changing his stand on the Eelam Tamils issue in a press release Monday. "All Tamil people will easily understand that there is an immense divide between the Karunanidhi of October 14's All Party Meeting who demanded a ceasefire, and the Karunanidhi of today who justifies the Union Government's inaction by saying that India has limitations on how far it can interfere in another country's affairs," he said.

He slammed Karunanidhi for his double-talk and wondered if he had been unaware of the constraints of New Delhi when he created the resolution demanding a ceasefire and gave a two-week ultimatum.

The PMK leader alleged that in spite of people's efforts like the human chain and the filmstars' fast, or state measures like New Delhi warning the Sri Lankan High Commissioner and Pranab's meeting with Karunanidhi, the genocide of Eelam Tamils had not come to an end.

He rebuked Karunanidhi for being so easily contented. "He had written letters saying that he was unable to sleep when he thought of the sufferings of Eelam Tamils. Today, is Karunanidhi so satisfied over India's steps that he will announce to us of his ability to sleep?" Ramadoss wondered.

Dr. Ramadoss further pointed out that on October 17, 2008, Karunanidhi had indirectly emphasized that India can interfere in another country's internal affairs by citing the example of the creation of Bangladesh.

In December 1971, Indian Armed Forces fought along side Bengali guerrilla troops to liberate Bangladesh, a state of Pakistan. Tamil intellectuals often point out the fact that while New Delhi recognized the linguistic and political self-determination of the Bengali people, it refuses to do the same in case of the Eelam Tamils.

On the same lines, the PMK leader added, "Intervention is an accepted international convention when the minorities of another nation are being massacred by the majority." Pointing out earlier Indian involvement, he said there was historical precedence, justifying the demand for exerting pressure on Sri Lanka.

The press release urged Karunanidhi to utilize the unity and solidarity prevailing in Tamil Nadu to make the Union Government to exert pressure on Colombo.
