Point Pedro police recovered a male corpse in highly decomposed state Tuesday at Pont Pedro Munai coast on information given by Sri Lanka Army (SLA) sentries on the coast.
A metal identification plate found attached to the body indicated that it belonged to a Liberation Tigers of Tamileelam (LTTE) combatant, the police said. It may be one of the Sea Tigers killed in the Saturday clash with Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) on the seas off Naakarkoayil, they further said. The inscription on the metal plate had (Tamil letters) Tha. Vi. Pu. Oa 2922 inscribed on it, the police said. Point Pedro District Court Additional Magistrate, A. G. Alex Rajah conducted the inquest into the death at the site and directed the police to hand over the body to Manthikai Hospital mortuary for identification. The magistrate further instructed the police to have the body buried at government expense if it remains unclaimed in the next five days. Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports say that four bodies of SLN troops killed in the Saturday clash had been washed ashore on the coasts of LTTE held territory.
