Police arrests 2 Tamils in Vaazhaicheanai

Vaazhaicheanai police arrested two elderly Tamil men Wednesday in a cordon and search conducted in Kalmadu area in Vaazhaicheanai police division in Batticaloa district. Police claimed that an SLA uniform and cap were recovered in the search from the house of the arrested persons. The search began at dawn and lasted until noon, sources in Vaazhaicheanai said.
The arrested persons are, Sinathamby Sivanadarasa, 57, the owner of the house and Ponnuthurai Sritharan, 53, staying in the house for rent. The arrestees were first detained in Vaazhaicheanai police and then produced in Vaazhaicheanai court Thursday. Magistrate Manickarasa Kanesarasa allowed them personal bail worth 50,000 rupees and ordered them to sign a register with the police everyday. Meanwhile, Vaazhaicheanai police conducted a cordon and search in Mayilangkarachchi area Wednesday during which the police collected the particulars of all persons living in each house, the residents of the area said.
