6 Tamil civilians including 4 in a family shot dead in Batticaloa

Unidentified gunmen shot and killed the parents, son and daughter Tuesday around 12:30 p.m in Ka’luvaangchchikkudi police division and in a separate shooting unidentified armed men shot and killed a young woman Tuesday around 9:15 p.m in Vaazhaichcheanai police division while unidentified armed men shot and killed a family man Tuesday around 11:00 p.m in Karadiyanaa’ru police division.
The young woman shot and killed was identified as Ponnaiah Sothimuthu, 27, of Aattangkarai Veethi, Ki’n’naiyadi in Vaazhaicheanai.
The killers shot and killed Sothimuthu in her house located around 200 m from the local Sri Lanka Army (SLA) camp.
Vaazhaichcheanai police are investigating into the killing.
Ki’n’naiyadi is located 32 km north of Batticaloa town.
The family man shot and killed was identified as Jothi Samuel, 33, the father of two children from Pa’l’laththucheanai in Karadiyanaa’ru.
The gunmen shot and killed Samuel while he was asleep with his family in his house on Chengkaladi-Badulla road, Karadiyanaa’ru police said.
Samuel is said to have been a member of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
Samuel’s body was first handed over to Karadiyanaa’ru Rural hospital and then given to family members.
The head of the family of four shot and killed in Ka’luvaangnchchikudi police division was identified as Kanapathipillai Vinayakamoorthy,42, of Kuruchchi 1, Ka’luthaava’lai.
The other three shot and killed along with him are his wife, Vinayakamoorthy Kalaranee, 34, his daughter V. Thivya, 17 and his son V. Kisanthan, 14.
The four bodies have been taken to Ka’luvaanchchikudi hospital by the police who are investigating into the killings.
Ka’luthaava’lai is located 15 km south of Batticaloa town.
