80-year-old woman reported missing with Jaffna HRC

An eighty year old woman has been reported missing since 30th December 2008 from Martin Road, Jaffna to Human Rights Commission (HRC) Jaffna office by her relatives. Meanwhile, Douglas Devananda, the Sri Lankan Minister said that he had taken steps to help the families of persons arrested and gone missing due to political reasons in Jaffna peninsula, in a report issued to local media.
Families of persons arrested or gone missing should register the particulars at the Eelam People’s Democratic Party (EPDP) office located in Srithar theatre in Jaffna, he said. The minister also said that he has held talks with the persons responsible for the arrests and persons reported missing, in his report to the media. More than 650 persons had gone missing in the period between 1996 and 1997 while more than 850 had been reported missing after year 2006.
