Equipment shortage in Kilinochchi schools

Officials at the Department of Education in the Kilinochchi district said today that due to the severe restrictions in transporting materials and equipment for science labs in district’s schools in the district, the quality of education is slipping.

Even the steel cupboards and other materials brought from the Ministry of Education in Colombo are lying in Vavuniya for months awaiting permission to be transported to the LTTE controlled areas.

Five typewriters brought from the Education Ministry are waiting for the clearance from the SLA authorities in Vavuniya since 1990, an officer of Kilinochchi district said.
