European diplomats visit Vavuniya

Mr.Thomas Wenk, the second secretary of the German Embassy in Sri Lanka and Ms.Jola Vollebregt the second secretary of the Netherlands along with Anandasangaari, the Acting President of the TULF and N.Raviraj the acting Mayor of Jaffna, came to Vavuniya on a two day visit on February 1.

"It was a fact finding visit" one of the team members said.

The team had discussions with the GA. ICRC, Bar Association, Human Rights Commission. They inspected a Pilot Project in which 10 vulnerable families who were affected by the war had been relocated at Bharathipuram. SEED (Social Economical and Environmental Developers) runs the project.

The visiting officials said that they were able to inspect the ground situation in Vavuniya and find out about the war affected and displaced families accommodated in welfare centres administered by the government.
