Student reported missing released by SLA in Jaffna

Sri Lanka Army (SLA) authorities in Oorezhu camp in Jaffna handed over Sunday a 16-year-old student of Aanaikkoaddai Mahaviththiyalayam gone missing on 18 December 2008 to his parents on condition that they should not disclose any information about their son being held by SLA for a month, sources in Jaffna said.

The released student is Mariyanayagam Nisanthan. He had gone missing a month ago after leaving home in the morning to attend classes in a private education centre.

Nisanthan’s mother who had reported her son missing to Jaffna Human Rights Commission (HRC) earleir has informed the HRC officials that Nisanthan was released by Urezhu SLA camp officials.

Meanwhile, the fate of a student reported missing from Kachchaay area in Jaffna peninsula remains unknown until now.

In early 2008, four students of St. John’s College and Jaffna Hindu College had been abducted and released after several days by SLA.
