Tamil youth abducted in Ampaa’rai

Unidentified armed men abducted a Tamil youth 9 January around 8:30 p.m in Kalmunai police division as he was returning home with his mother in a three-wheeler, being just released by Kalmunai police who had arrested him in a cordon and search operation the same day in the Rest House area in Kalmunai police division in Ampaa‘rai district, according to the complaint lodged by his relatives with Kalmunai police.
The abducted youth is Saundararajah Srikaran alias Srikanth, 22, a resident of Rest House Area in Kalmunai. Srikaran was accompanied by his mother and some relatives when the armed men abducted him. Youths arrested in the cordon and searches are claimed by the police to have been handed over to INV section but are released in the evenings when unidentified armed men abduct the youths, kalmunai residents said. This practise continues unchecked and complaints have been lodged with the Hunan Rights Commission and ICRC in Kalmunai, regarding the abduction of Srikaran.
