Financial help for NE students

The North East Governor has approved a scheme to pay a monthly allowance of five hundred rupees for two years to five hundred students in the north east province, who are unable to continue their higher studies in G.C.E. Advanced Level classes, said Mr.Sundaram Divakala, Secretary of the Provincial Ministry of Education, Cultural Affairs and Sports.
This scheme has been formulated by the provincial education ministry and it would be implemented from May, this year. Every year five hundred students would be selected under this scheme. Four-hundred and eighty students would be selected on the zonal basis- 20 students per zone ( north east province is divided into 24 educational zones). The rest- twenty students - would be selected by the Secretary of the Provincial Ministry of Education, Mr. Divakala added. Financial assistance would be given to students who come from families below poverty line and this should be certified by the respective zonal director with the help of grama sevaka officers, school principals and divisional secretaries, provincial ministry sources said.
