Indian High Commissioner visits Batticaloa

“Indian government will extend its full support to the decisions to be taken by the Sri Lankan government on the devolution of power according to the 13th amendment of its constitution,” Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Shri Alok Prasad, said participating in a meeting Monday in Batticaloa Municipal Council hall presided by Batticaloa mayor.

The Indian High Commissioner is on a two day visit to the Eastern Province.

The High Commissioner further said that India had assisted in the small scale development schemes in the East and that it would continue to work jointly with the Sri Lankan government in the development activities of the Eastern Province.

He also said that India will provide assistance in the spheres like education, fishing and technical knowledge and that direct bus and train services between Batticaloa and Trincomalee are to be introduced.

Most of the Eastern Province ministers took part in the functions held Monday evening in Batticaloa town and Kaaththaankudi.
