Five PLOTE members arrested in Vavuniya

Vavuniya Magistrate, S.Thiyagenthiran, remanded in custody five PLOTE members till February 23 today.

They are being held in connection with the murders of three TELO members, the attempted murder of another TELO member and the murder of a civilian.

The Inspector of Police and OIC of the Vavuniya Crime Branch, Hemantha Ovitigama, produced the suspects before the magistrate.

He told the courts that there had been clashes over the past week between the TELO and PLOTE. He also asked the courts to remand the suspects in custody as there is a possibility of further clashes between the two groups.

The Police produced two T56 weapons, magazines and a van captured from the suspects.
The Magistrate ordered Police officials to escort the suspects to Anuradhapura prison immediately.
The names of the suspects are as follows:
Paramasamy Balachandran of Rambaikulam
Wijayaratnam Nanthakumar of Ambigaipaahan Koddam, Nelukulam
Murugan Shanmugarajah of Sinnaputhukulam
Mookan Sureshkumar of Veppankulam
Arunasalam Mylvaganam of Koomankulam
