Police recover body of Kauna group person in Vaazhaichcheanai

Vaazhaichcheanai police recovered the body of the Karuna group person shot and killed Friday night by unidentified armed men at the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) office of Vinayagamoorthy Muraleetharan alias Karuna in Vadamunai Ooththuchcheanai on the border of Batticaloa district, sources in Batticaloa said. The body was recovered near Vadamumani tank with gunshot injuries, the police said.

The body was identified as that of Kumar Nagendran alias Chandrasekaran, aged 25.

Vaazhaichcheanai police said earlier that Chandrasegaran and Kugan who had been staying at the SLFP office had disappeared along with a T56 type rifle immediately after the shooting.

The fate of Kugan is not known, the police said.

Chandraseganran’s body has been handed over to Vaazhaichcheanai Hospital for post mortem examination to be held.

The SLFP office is located in Vaazhaichcheanai police division in Koa’ra’laippattu South Predesha Secretariat division.

Karuna group Tamil Makkal Viduthali Pulikal (TMVP) offices in Baticaloa and Ampaa’rai districts have been changed as SLFP offices since Karuna paramilitary group joining SLFP on 7 March.
