Paramilitary men shoot dead 3 Tamils, a Muslim in Trincomalee

Paramilitary men operating with Sri Lanka Army (SLA) shot and killed Saturday around 8:45 two Tamil civilians including the President of the Nochchiku’lam Peace Committee and a Muslim civilian in Kantha’laay police division in Trincomalee district, sources in Trincomalee said. Meanwhile, paramilitary men gunned down a Tamil civilian Saturday around 9:00 p.m at Shaanthipuram in Kantha’laay police division, the sources added.a

The victims were identified as Koaneswaran, 48, Nochchiku’lam Peace Committee president, Sekar, 60 and Ameer, 32.

The three were shot and killed inside Koaneswaran’s shop located next to the SLA check post.

In a separate shooting Rasamani, 70, was shot and killed in Shanthipuram, located one mile from Nochchiyaagama.

Morawewa is situated two and a half miles from Nochchiyaagama.

Tamil National Alliance (TNA) Trincomalee district parliamentarian Thurairatnasingam said that he took up the matter with Kantha’laay Superintendent of Police when the relatives of the victims made complaints to him.

15 Tamils have been shot and killed by SLA soldiers and SLA-backed paramilitary men in Trincomalee during last month alone.

Tension and fear prevails among the residents in Trincomalee following the continuing killings.
