Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) authorities in Trincomalee imposed additional restriction on fishing barring fishermen from engaging in deep sea fishing. The fishermen are allowed only around three hours of fishing close to the coast in early mornings, fisheries society sources in Trincomalee said. Meanwhile, patrolling in coastal areas has been stepped up to prevent infiltration by strangers from sea side, the sources added.
The government armed forces frequently conduct cordon and search operations in the coastal villages in Trincomalee district, subjecting people to severe interrogation. Those failing to provide satisfactory reason for their presence in the locations searched are being taken to police stations and detained for further interrogation.
