Tamil couple arrested in Mannaar

Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and police arrested a Tamil couple in Ezhuthoor in Mannaar district claiming that a claymore mine and some explosives were recovered from a bare land next to their house, in a search operation conducted in the area on 27 April, sources in Mannaar said.

The wife, Sivaganapathi, 34, Muthuledchumi, a mother of three children, was taken into custody on the same day.

She was produced before Mannaar Magistrate on April 29 and later remanded in Anuradhapura prison till May 11.

Her husband, Velautham Sivaganapathi, 35, was arrested on April 29 and is being detained in Mannaar police station for further inquiry.

The Tamil couple had been living in a piece of land which is located adjacent to the bare land where the armed forces claimed to have recovered a claymore mine and explosives, sources said.
