'Responsibility now with US'

The first act of Tamil Nadu chief minister Karunanidhi after the announcement of the election results was an appeal to the Indian Establishment re-elected to power to save the Eezham Tamils. However, the utmost responsibility lies with the Co-Chairs and especially with the US, says TamilNet’s political analyst in Colombo. The US has to either convince India or act alone to save the situation and save its own credibility. Failing, the White House is likely to emerge bearing the major responsibility for conning Tamils to their death and subjugation, and the IC tagged behind it may never be able to justify its credentials in implementing a world order it desires, he further said.

All observers might have noticed that the LTTE since the signing of the peace agreement in 2002 was largely adhering to the norms imposed on it by the IC, because it valued the international recognition needed for the liberation of Tamils in the island.

The Tamil circles couldn’t help thinking that had the LTTE opted defying the IC like what Mahinda Rajapaksa is doing now and had taken the war beyond being defensive, the IC couldn’t have been able to con the Tamils and would have been forced to act.

As the Indian Establishment is largely seen as the war partner along with Colombo, nothing much can be expected from it.

But the Co-Chairs acted independently, without involving India or the UN.

Therefore there is no justification in citing India or the UN as excuses.

The US bears full responsibility.
