Extortionists arrested in Mannaar

Mannaar Police arrested six persons including a woman who are alleged to have been extorting money from traders in Mannar Friday. The gang of extortionists is said to have been directed by their leader via telephone from Anuradhapura remand prison where he has remanded. Six suspects are detained in Mannaar police station for further interrogation, media reports said.



Meanwhile, the Mannar Police have advised Mannaar traders not to yield to threats they receive via telephone from anonymous persons, but to report to the police if they receive such threatening calls demanding money.

Mannar Police has also told business community that there is no white van threat and abduction in Mannar currently, media reports further said.
