JVP decides against contesting Jaffna MC

The Sinhala extreme nationalist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) said it has decided not to contest the election to the Jaffna Municipal Council (JMC). The decision was taken by the JVP politburo held on Wednesday. However, the JVP politburo is scheduled to meet next week to decide on contesting the Vavuniyaa Urban Council, party sources said.

Meanwhile, JVP politburo has decided to contest the election to the Uva Provincial Council (UPC) and has appointed a committee to select candidates.

Wijitha Heart, the propaganda secretary to JVP, heads the committee that comprises parliamentarians Chandrasena Wijesinghe and Samantha Vithiarathna.
