All development work in the Eechilampattai division of the Muttur area has come to a standstill as the security forces stationed there have banned cement from being taken to the village, according to Mr.Najeeb Abdul Majeed, Member of Parliament for the Trincomalee district. Mr.Majeed is a member of the ruling People Alliance party.
Presiding over the Trincomalee District Co-ordinating Committee recently, he brought to the notice of the army officials present, that people and other state agencies were finding very difficult to do development work in the Eechilampattai division as no one was permitted to take cement to the village from army controlled areas. The Eechilampattai division is in the control of Liberation Tigers. It was also pointed out at this meeting that the Trincomalee Multi-purpose Co-operative Society was not allowed to take cement to its branch at Sambalthivu village, three miles off, north of Trincomalee town. Security officials replied that they could consider these requests.
