6 police personnel remanded in Angulana killings

Mount Lavinia Chief Magistrate Harsha Settunge Thursday night ordered remand for five police officers including the Officer–in-Charge (OIC) of the Angulana Police Post until the 26th of August over the death of two youths from Angulana who were in police custody, Police Spokesman SSP Ranjit Gunasekara said.

OIC Thumbeydara Jeevi Newton, and Police Constables Bandaragodage Anura Pradeep Kumara, Gallwelage Indrawansa Kumarasiri, Rohan Bandara Nawaratne and Gayan Chathuranga Thotawatte were produced last night before the magistrate at his official residence.

The arrest had been carried out based on statements made by Aarachchilage Damith Kumara and Kalpage Basil Fernando, two men who had been kept at a cell in the Angulana police post with the two victims.
