Civil officers’ quarters in Vavuniyaa attacked

Unidentified persons attacked official quarters of several government and NGO officers located in Vavuniyaa Wednesday around 11:00 p.m. They threw stones at these official residences, according to complaints lodged with Vavuniyaa Police immediately after the attack.

The attackers had fled from the area where official quarters are located when an armed police party rushed to the site, sources in Vavuniyaa said.

The attack had been carried out targeting official residences of officers working in law courts, government offices and international non-governmental organizations in Vavuniyaa, according to the complaints by concerned officials.

The police have launched a full scale inquiry into the incident following instruction from higher-ups in Colombo, the sources added.
