3 JVP journalists arrested in Deniyaya

Three Sinhala journalists were arrested Wednesday afternoon by the Deniyaya Police in the southern province. The journalists worked for the “Lanka” newspaper, the party organ of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP).

At that time of arrest they were covering the issues related to Southern provincial council elections, according to the Editor of the newspaper.

Journalist's Sahlika Wimalasena, Daya Nathasingha, and photo journalist Ravindra Pushpakumara were being detained at Deniyaya police.

Police said they took them into custody when they were entering a private land without permission and alleged that they were filming construction site of a new house of a VVIP in the Southern Province.
