Two more government officers who were working in Mullaiththeevu district
during the war and later detained in Pulmoaddai internment camp in Trincomalee district were handed over to the Mullaiththeevu Government Agent Wednesday by Sri Lanka Army (SLA) authority. They are Mrs. M. G. Vilvarajah, District Director of Planning in Mullaiththeevu and Mr. V. S. Theivendran, Mullaiththeevu Zonal Director of Education. Earlier, five staff officers, including Mr. K. Parthipan,
Mullaitheivu Additional Government Agent, with their families, were released.
Theivendran had lost his wife and daughter in Mullaiththeevu in the last
leg of military operation by the SLA. Both were killed in the
SLA artillery fire. Later he was accompanied to Pulmoaddai by
his sister’s family, sources in Pulmoaddai said. Now all the seven staff officers who were working in Mullaiththeevu
district and detained in Pulmoddai internment camp were
released due to the efforts taken by Mullaiththeevu Government Agent Ms.
Imelda Sukumar. They are now working in the Coordinating Office of the Mullaiththeevu District Secretariat, currently located in the Vavuniyaa District Secretariat. Pulmoaddai, a traditional Muslim village that comes under the
administrative district of Trincomalee, is located about 45 km
north from the east port town.
