Officials of the government and non governmental organisations, who met at the monthly district rehabilitation meeting yesterday did not make any decision on the issue of relief food assistance to the displaced families, the sources added.
The members of the meeting were told that the ICRC had provided only cooking utensils and cakes of soap to the displaced. Representatives who participated in the meeting on behalf of the displaced said that the refugees were extremely disappointed as necessary steps were not taken by the government authorities to provide relief assistance. However, sources in the Vanni said that the non governmental organisations had managed to look after the refugees by providing cooked meals, for the past week. Meanwhile, government officials when contacted said that after providing 3 days cooked meal to the displaced they appealed to the government for funds and permission to provide further relief assistance. They said that they had not received any instructions from the officials concerned so far.
