Suspected LTTE member commits suicide

A youth suspected to be a member of the Liberation Tigers committed suicide by blowing up a grenade on himself in Ananthapuram in Irupaalai this afternoon around 1.30 p.m. when the SLA cordoned off the area and searched for him.

Police sources in Jaffna said that the SLA was tipped off about the presence of the youth in Ananthapuram.

The army had gone to the area with precise information about the movements of the youth.

Ananthapuram is an interior village near Kuttuni, an area on the Thenmaradchi border where the Liberation Tigers were very active when Jaffna was under the control of the Indian army sources said.
