SSP’s wife, son, further remanded in Malabe abduction, assault case

Kaduwala Magistrate Amal Ranarajah Tuesday ordered further remand until September 29 for the wife and son of former Colombo Crime Division Director, Senior Superintendent of Police, Vass Gunawardena and eight others accused in a case where a student of the Malabe IT campus was abducted and assaulted.

Colombo Crimes Division (CCD) informed court that investigation revealed that there was a possibility the victim, who was at one time reported missing, was taken to the house of SSP, Vaas Gunawardena in Nedimala before he was produced to the CCD.

Four of the 14 suspects who were arrested and detained in connection with the assault and abduction of the IT student were released by the court on the advice of the Attorney General (AG).
