Court remands EPDP cadre in robbery case

Colombo Additional Magistrate, Mr.Ruchira Weliwatte, Friday ordered remand till October 29 to a member of the Eelam Peoples Democratic Party (EPDP), legal sources said. The suspect, Sellathurai Mathialagan, was produced in court on a complaint that he was alleged to have grabbed a handbag from a woman passerby while riding a motorbike, court sources said.

The Defence Counsel informed court that the suspect had come to Colombo ten days earlier from Jaffna and had been working as a member of security unit of the Minister Mr. Douglas Devananda.

The police told court that suspect was hauled in by the owner of the handbag and the people while he fell on the road along Havelock Road with his motor bike due to an accident.

The suspect was immediately handed over to the Wellawatte Police
