Schoolgirl killed in air strike

A 14 year old school girl, Gukanathan Pirainitha, was killed and another woman was seriously wounded in an air strike by the Sri Lankan Air Force at Puthukudiyiruppu in the Mullaithivu district this morning around 11 a.m., said sources in the Vanni.
The wounded woman has been admitted to the Puthukudiyiruppu hospital. NGO Consortium in Karaithuraipattru in Mullaithivu has condemned the attack. Yesterday a 40 year old woman was killed and three others were wounded in SLAF air strike in the district. Meanwhile the conductor, Ahamad, of the Colombo-Batticaloa bus was severely beaten up by the Sri Lankan Army and Tamil paramilitary group cadres, near Kommanthurai camp this morning. The conductor was assaulted when he tried to remove a stone near an army check post, said sources. He has been admitted to the Eravur Hospital.
