The Sri Lanka Army (SLA) said that it had captured Madhu this evening. Government troops also brought under their control Thadchanamaruthamadu, four kilometers north of Madhu, where thousands of refugees are camped under the supervision of international aid agencies.
The SLA said troops had advanced into Madhu and Parappakkadanthaan, and that adjoining areas are already under its control. Troops had advanced north from their positions in Kattaiadampan on the Mannar Vavuniya road and had reached Sinnavil through the jungles this afternoon, Army sources said. Sinnavil is less than three kilometers west of Madhu. Three Liberation Tigers were killed in a confrontation with the troops during this operation said an aid agency source in the area.
