Sri Lanka Police Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers took into custody a Tamil female undergrad, a native of Ki’linochchi, Thursday afternoon from Peredeniya University in Kandy but she is yet to be released and her whereabouts remain unknown, according to complaint lodged with Human Rights Commission (HRC) Kandy office by fellow Tamil undergrads.
According to the complaint, the female undergrad was attending
lectures on Thursday along with her fellow undergrads. Around 2:15 p.m a
security officer of the university entered the lecture hall and told
her that she was wanted by the CID officials who were waiting in the
university compound. She then left the lecture hall accompanied by the security officer. Fellow undergrads thereafter rushed out of the lecture hall and saw her being taken by the CID team in a jeep. She was first taken to the Peradeniya police station. Thereafter she
was brought to her room in the student quarters. She collected her
belongings there. Later the CID team took her with her belongings to
Colombo for further interrogation. Meanwhile fellow Tamil undergrads of the Arts Faculty of the
Peradeniya University Friday morning started boycotting lectures
demanding her release without delay, Peredeniya university sources said.
