[TamilNet, Sunday, 15 November 2009, 15:44 GMT]
President Mahinda Rajapakse did not announce which election would take
place first, presidential or parliamentary, while addressing the
national convention of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), main
constituent of the ruling United Peoples Freedom Alliance (UPFA),
Sunday evening despite wide speculation that he would announce the
date for early presidential election. The convention was held at
Kettarama Stadium in Colombo.
The government will decide in due course which election should be
held first, said Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse. Majority of delegates attending the convention raised their hands in
support of Presidential poll when President Rajapakse questioned them
as to which of the elections they wanted first. President Rajapakse speaking in Tamil repeated his stand after the end
of the war that there were no minorities in the country.
